Stage Management Career Guide

The Stage Management Association has a free careers guide available for students thinking of a career backstage. The guide can be downloaded here.

Useful 'Paper Props' CD from the SMA

The Stage Management Association (SMA) has launched the first in a series of three Paper Props CDs.  Paper props are some of the most time-consuming props to produce – they’re small and fiddly, but contribute to the overall authenticity of a production.

This first CD includes around 150 period photographs, from Edwardian times to the 1960s, collated in folders such as Families, Weddings, Military Portraits, Female Portraits, Leisure, etc. and dated for ease of use. The second one will feature period documents, such as driving licences, birth certificates, etc.

Paper Props CD1 costs from £7.50 and can be obtained from the SMA – Website.

The Stage Careers Guides 'e-books'

The Stage newspaper has published a set of useful 'e-books' available for students who would like to know more about careers backstage, including craft and construction, costume and make-up, lighting and sound, and stage management.  Also recommended for school libraries and careers advisors. Each guide costs £5.50 to download (or £10 for a print edition) from The Stage website.
